Working Together for Healthier Communities: RCV Meets with Ministry of Health

Published: September 23, 2025

We’re excited to share some meaningful progress in our ongoing commitment to health and wellness across Seychelles. On September 22nd, members of our Rotary Club of Victoria had the privilege of sitting down with the Minister of Health and senior executives to explore how we can work together to support cancer prevention and early detection initiatives in our beloved islands.

A Meeting of Shared Purpose

It was truly humbling to be welcomed by such dedicated health leaders. Our RCV representatives – Mrs. Marie Pierre Lloyd, Mrs. Foram Varsani, Mr. Raymond Brioche, and Mr. Edward Mullen – met with an exceptional team from the Ministry of Health, including Minister Vidot, Principal Secretary Dr. Bernard Valentin, CEO of Health Care Agency Dr. Danny Louange, Deputy CEO Mr. Marc Chang Lam, Chairman of Public Health Authority Dr. Conrad Shamlaye, and Director for Public Health Dr. Meggy Louange.

The room was filled with genuine care for our community’s wellbeing and a shared determination to make a real difference in the fight against cancer.

Dreams Taking Shape

Our preliminary discussions centered on some ambitious but achievable goals – establishing proper cancer screening facilities and services right here in Seychelles. We talked about the potential for endoscopic equipment, imaging machinery like mammograms, and investing in our most valuable resource: training and capacity building for our healthcare staff.

These aren’t just technical discussions about equipment and facilities; they’re about giving our families, friends, and neighbors access to potentially life-saving early detection services. They’re about creating a future where cancer screening is accessible, where early detection becomes the norm, and where more lives can be saved.

Our Commitment to Health

Disease prevention and health promotion have always been close to our hearts at Rotary Club of Victoria. Over the years, we’ve been blessed with the opportunity to support various health sector projects across Seychelles, and each one has strengthened our resolve to do more.

We’re particularly proud that our community’s generosity has made this new initiative possible. The funds we’re committing to cancer education, screening, and early detection come from our recent national lottery – the one you all supported so generously with the draw on August 30th and the wonderful prize-giving celebration at Espace Café on September 5th.

Every ticket purchased, every person who participated – you’ve made this possible. Your support isn’t just helping us hand out prizes; it’s helping us save lives.

The Road Ahead

While this was a preliminary meeting, it was an incredibly productive one. Both our team and the Ministry of Health leadership agreed to continue our discussions and work together to identify specific projects that align with the Ministry’s comprehensive plan for cancer prevention and early detection.

We’re taking this step by step, thoughtfully and carefully, because we want to ensure that whatever we undertake will have the greatest possible impact on our community’s health outcomes.

Why This Matters

Cancer touches so many of our lives – whether directly or through loved ones. The opportunity to contribute meaningfully to cancer prevention and early detection in Seychelles is both a privilege and a responsibility we take very seriously.

We’re not experts in healthcare – that’s why partnerships like this one with the Ministry of Health are so important. But what we can offer is our community’s support, the funds raised through your generosity, and a deep commitment to making Seychelles a healthier place for all of us.

Grateful and Hopeful

We left that meeting room on September 22nd feeling deeply grateful – grateful for the Ministry’s openness to collaboration, grateful for the expertise and dedication of our healthcare leaders, and most of all, grateful to our community for making this work possible.

This is what Rotary is all about: bringing people together, pooling resources, and working toward common goals that lift everyone up. We’re honored to play our small part in this important mission.

We’ll keep you updated as these discussions progress and projects take shape. Thank you for being part of this journey with us.

Together, we’re not just making a difference – we’re potentially saving lives.
