A Meeting of Shared Vision: Rotary Club of Victoria and Minister Marvin Fanny Unite for Cancer Awareness

Published: February 20, 2026

There’s something deeply meaningful about watching a conversation turn into a commitment — when the people around the table share not just ideas, but a genuine sense of urgency and care for the lives they serve. That’s exactly what happened on Friday, 20 February 2026, when Minister Marvin Fanny graciously received past and present leaders of the Rotary Club of Victoria for an important discussion focused on cancer screening, early detection, and public education in Seychelles.

Bringing a Vision to the Table

The initiative at the heart of this meeting is being led by Mrs. Marie-Pierre Lloyd, whose tireless dedication to health advocacy continues to inspire those around her. The project aims to strengthen public awareness around cancer, promote timely screening, and ultimately improve health outcomes and save lives within our community. These are goals that speak directly to the heart of what Rotary stands for — putting service above self to protect and uplift the people around us.

Mrs. Lloyd was joined by a strong Rotary delegation, including Mr. Raymond Brioche, President-Elect of the Rotary Club of Victoria; Mrs. Foram Varsani, Assistant District Governor of the Rotary; and Dr. Sarka Victorova, Past President of the Rotary Club of Victoria. Their combined experience and passion brought weight and warmth to the conversation, reflecting the depth of commitment our club carries for this cause.

A Partnership Built on Trust

Representing the Ministry of Health were Dr. Jude Padayachy, Secretary of State; Dr. Bernard Valentin, Special Advisor; Dr. Sanjeev Pugazhendhi, Principal Secretary for Policy, Strategy and Accountability; Dr. Sandra Crewe, Principal Secretary for Health Care Services; and Mrs. Monique Cado, Assistant Cooperation Officer. The presence of such senior leadership from the Ministry speaks volumes about the importance placed on this partnership.

What made this meeting truly special wasn’t just the impressive gathering of leaders — it was the spirit of shared purpose that filled the room. This wasn’t a formal presentation or a distant briefing. It was a genuine exchange between partners who believe that when government and civil society work side by side, extraordinary things become possible.

Health That Matters

Cancer remains one of the most significant health challenges facing communities worldwide, and Seychelles is no exception. Early detection saves lives — that is a truth we carry with us as we move this initiative forward. By working together to strengthen screening programmes and raise public awareness, we are taking meaningful steps towards a future where fewer families have to face the devastating impact of late diagnosis.

This project isn’t just about healthcare — it’s about hope. It’s about ensuring that every person in our community has access to the knowledge and support they need to take charge of their own health.

Gratitude and Commitment

We are deeply grateful to Minister Marvin Fanny and the entire Ministry of Health team for their openness, their engagement, and their willingness to walk this path alongside us. We also extend our heartfelt appreciation to Mrs. Marie-Pierre Lloyd for her visionary leadership on this initiative, and to every member of the Rotary delegation who gave their time and expertise to make this meeting possible.

Looking Forward Together

This meeting marks not an ending, but a beginning. The conversations that took place will now translate into action — into programmes that reach people, into awareness campaigns that educate, and into screening initiatives that save lives. We know the road ahead requires sustained effort, collaboration, and care, but we also know that we are not walking it alone.

Together, united in our commitment to preventive healthcare and public awareness, we continue to work towards a healthier, stronger future for every person in Seychelles.
