Serving With Compassion: Rotary Clubs Unite to Fight Hunger and Support the Homeless in Port Louis

Published: May 11, 2026

There’s something profoundly humbling about handing a warm meal and a blanket to someone who has nowhere to call home. It’s a moment that strips away everything except what matters most — our shared humanity, and the simple truth that every person deserves to be seen, cared for, and treated with dignity.

On Sunday, 10 May 2026, the Rotary Club of Victoria proudly joined hands with the Rotary Club of Quatre Bornes and the Rotary Club Saint-Denis Austral for a heartfelt outreach initiative in Port Louis, Mauritius.

Comfort, Dignity, and Hope

Through the distribution of clothing, takeaway meals, drinks, and blankets to homeless individuals, our combined teams sought to bring more than material relief. We sought to bring comfort, dignity, and hope — to let those we served know that they are not forgotten, that people from across the Indian Ocean region care about their wellbeing, and that the spirit of service above self has no borders.

What made this initiative truly special wasn’t just the items we distributed — it was the connections we made. The smiles exchanged, the words of encouragement shared, and the simple act of sitting alongside someone and showing them that they matter. These are the moments that remind us why Rotary exists.

The Power of Collective Compassion

This collaboration brought together Rotarians from Seychelles, Mauritius, and Réunion, and it was a powerful demonstration of what our District 9220 family can achieve when we work as one. Hunger and homelessness are challenges that no single club can solve alone, but when we pool our resources, our energy, and our hearts, we can make a real and immediate difference in the lives of those who need it most.

The initiative also reflected the spirit of fellowship that was alive across the district during this week, as Rotarians gathered for the District 9220 Conference. But beyond the conference halls and formal proceedings, this is the work that gives our gatherings their deepest meaning — going out into the community and putting our values into action.

Gratitude and Solidarity

We are deeply grateful to the Rotary Club of Quatre Bornes and the Rotary Club Saint-Denis Austral for their partnership, their generosity, and their commitment to this cause. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to every Rotarian who gave their time that afternoon — your compassion made all the difference.

The Work Continues

Hunger and homelessness require sustained attention, not just single acts of kindness. The Rotary Club of Victoria is committed to continuing this kind of direct, hands-on service — both at home in Seychelles and wherever we can extend our reach through the strength of our district partnerships. Under our theme “Unite for Good,” we believe that every meal served, every blanket given, and every moment of human connection brings us closer to the world we want to build.

Together, driven by compassion and united across borders, we are proving that service above self is more than a motto — it is a way of life.
