Standing Together in Difficult Times: Rotary Club of Victoria Supports Family After Fire Incident

Published: March 2, 2026

There are moments when community reveals itself not in celebrations or ceremonies, but in quiet acts of solidarity during the most difficult times. On 2 March 2026, the Rotary Club of Victoria had the solemn privilege of reaching out to Ms. Aline Thomas and her son following a recent fire incident that brought significant hardship to their family.

Restoring Dignity, One Step at a Time

As part of our compassionate response initiative, the Club presented SCR 5,000 worth of STC vouchers to the family, officially handed over by RCV President Ranjan Orphee. While no gesture can undo the loss that fire brings, we believe that practical support in moments of crisis can help restore a sense of stability and dignity when it is needed most.

What drives this kind of response isn’t obligation — it’s love for community. It’s the belief that when one family suffers, we all feel it, and when we come together to help, we all heal a little too. As President Ranjan Orphee shared, “During moments of unexpected loss, what matters most is knowing that you are not alone. As Rotarians, we believe in standing together and offering practical support where it is most needed.”

Service Above Self in Action

This initiative forms part of the Club’s 2025–2026 service agenda under our theme “Unite for Good.” It reflects a commitment we carry every day — that service above self isn’t just a motto, it’s a way of responding to the world around us. When a family in our community faces an emergency, we want them to know that there are people who care, who will show up, and who will do what they can to help lighten the burden.

Moments like these remind us exactly why we do what we do. The material value of the support matters, but perhaps what matters even more is the message it carries — that no one in our community should have to face hardship alone.

Gratitude and Hope

We are deeply grateful to every member of the Rotary Club of Victoria whose generosity and compassion made this response possible. We are also thankful to our community partners and supporters who stand behind our mission to uplift and care for the most vulnerable among us.

The Work Continues

The Rotary Club of Victoria remains committed to actively responding to urgent social needs across our community. Whether through planned initiatives or compassionate responses to unexpected events, we will continue to ensure that care, dignity, and hope are always within reach for those who need them.

Together, united in compassion and driven by the belief that every act of kindness matters, we will continue to stand with our community through every challenge.
